Privacy Policy
Last updated 29 October 2026
In short: ORBT Chess collects no data. There are no analytics, no ads, no tracking and no ORBT account. The developer never receives your repertoires, your training history or anything else about you.
Your files
Your repertoires (PGN files), their settings and your review history are stored in your own iCloud Drive, in the ORBT Chess folder, or on your device when iCloud is off. Apple syncs them between your devices under Apple's privacy policy. ORBT has no server of its own that sees them.
What the app sends, and to whom
Like any internet request, each of these reveals your IP address to the server it goes to.
- Lichess (
lichess.org,explorer.lichess.org): chess positions, to fetch opening statistics from the opening explorer and cloud evaluations for the analysis board. Only positions are sent, never your repertoire as a whole. Lichess's handling of these requests is covered by the Lichess privacy policy. - Lichess sign-in (optional): if you sign in, the app receives an access token from Lichess, keeps it in your device's Keychain and sends it only to Lichess with the requests above. Signing out revokes it at Lichess and deletes it from your device.
- Analyse on Lichess: when you choose it, the current line opens on lichess.org in your browser.
- Coverage tables: offline opening statistics are downloaded from a Cloudflare R2 storage bucket. The download request carries nothing about you or your repertoire.
- Engine network: if you download Stockfish's full network in Settings, it comes from
tests.stockfishchess.org.
Stored on your device
Opening statistics already fetched are cached on your device so each position is fetched once. App preferences are kept in the app's own settings. Neither leaves your device.
Crash reports
If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device's settings, Apple may send anonymous crash reports, which the developer can see in Xcode. You can turn this off in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
Open source
You don't have to take our word for any of this: the app's full source code is public.
Changes and contact
